I have been involved in IT for the past 20 years. I have done development and maintenance in Cobol/Cics environment

throughout the whole system life cycle. I have work closely with team members in teams of varing size. I can also work on my

own and have done so on occasion.

I have very good interpersonal and communication skills and I have maintained a good relationship with my previous

employers and collegues. I am familiar with the operations side of computer systems as I started my career as a computer

operator.

ANALYST PROGRAMMER

As Analyst I was required to do the analysis and design of

systems for stated business requirements. I had to set-up the

technical documentation before the development of the

application could begin. The progress and scope of the

development was highlighted in technical presentations that I set up for the management team.

As a team we were required to follow strict technical standards and do quality assurance on each others segments. I had to

do work allocation between team members as well as give technical guidance. I was also tasked to do research on new

methods of data extraction and do recommendations based on my findings.

In the role as developer/programmer I had to do program coding changes for on-line and batch programs written in

Cobol/Cics. I was responsible for program testing and implementation as well as setting up a test environment for batch

testing. I had to set up JCL and run scheduled tasks to test changes.

As a team we were responsible for system testing and implementation and then handling the change and problem

management to resolve system problems. I had to adhere to quality standards and change control processes as defined by

the IT departments.

In order to improve the skills of other team members I provided support to resolve calls and imparted knowledge in my area

of expertise. I was required to resolve calls in areas of both expert and of non-expert areas.

At times I was required to do first, second and third standby for production systems on a regular basis.

DESKTOP SUPPORT ENGINEER

I do installation of hardware and software on workstations and servers

as required and I am responsible for hardware and software

management in conjunction with the vendors. I investigate and do

technical recommendations with regards to the optimal configuration of

desktops for performance and cost effectiveness.

I was responsible to monitor server event logs for errors, to attend to

these errors, and do server and database backups and updates of the

anti-virus programs on the servers.

I did the installation of vendor specific applications and was responsible

for disaster recovery setup & documentation on the servers. I report to

management through SLA reports and propose new or better product

strategies by doing research in comparing current systems and

processes with what is available on the market.

I did standby on a regular basis and was also responsible to do network

fault finding when the network is down. I do user management with my

fellow team members using Active Directory.

IT TECHNICIAN

I am required to do technical installations of specialized equipment with-

in server environments and desktops. As a team we are tasked to do

network and pc fault finding whenever a problem occurs. I also impart

my knowledge gained with my team mates ensuring a high level of

service at all times.

I am required to setup desktops and servers on networks and to do

problem management. I have to resolve calls in areas of both expert

and of non-expert areas using my ability to logically process possible

causes and acting upon my findings.

I build and sell personal computers as a secondary income and because I

enjoy the challenge of putting things together and seeing hard work pay off.

DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

I was responsible for the maintenance of existing tables in Oracle. I had to do alterations to current structures according to

user needs and requirements.

As administrator I had to designs, create, and maintain physical and logical databases in conjunction with other DBA’s

ensuring the maintenance of data integrity on the database. I was responsible for the writing of scripts for users to modify

data and / or tables.

I had to import and export data to and from the mainframe environment into the UNIX environment. In doing my duties I had

to identify system problems, resolve those problems and develop methods for monitoring system effectiveness.

I was also required to provide general support for users through meetings, presentations, and preparation of documentation. I

was also responsible for data security management.

WEB DESIGN / DEVELOPMENT

If required by the owners I am involved

in the writing of specifications for the

new site. I design web sites and do

layout of web pages as well as the

setting up of the web site on a hosting

server. If and when required I scan and

manipulate images from photographs

as dictated by the design of the site. I

can also manipulate data as required

by the owner of the site.

I do my own file transfers of data to

service providers and am responsible

for the maintenance and upkeep of

most of the web pages I design. I do

the testing of web sites on different

versions of the same browsers as well

as different browsers.
